You have had it drilled into your mind from a very young age. Washing your hands is not just common courtesy anymore. At some point, it may just save your life. So many serious diseases such as tuberculosis and bird flu can survive outside of the body for many days on end. Without regular hand-washing, you can become infected and also spread the disease to others. Here are the mortality rates of certain diseases compared to their survival time outside of the body.
